Chicago State is set to hire Alcorn State head coach Landon Bussie as its next head coach, per Adam Nelson of HoopDirt.
The Cougars fired Scott Spinelli after one season at the helm in which they went 4-28, and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the NEC Tournament.
Spinelli took over after Gerald Gillion left for the associate head coach role at LIU, who ended up being the team to eliminate CSU. Gillion led Chicago State to back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time in a decade before leaving.
Bussie has been the head coach at Alcorn State for five seasons, and has had a winning record in the SWAC in each of the last four. Bussie went 59-26 in SWAC play, good for a 69% winning percentage. He won back-to-back SWAC Regular Season titles in 2022 and 2023, taking home coach of the year honors both times.
The 37-year-old was previously an assistant coach at Prairie View A&M and NAIA school Xavier (Louisiana), where he graduated in 2010.
